Pyramid Principle

Start with the answer, then organize supporting points so each lower layer explains the one above it.

Best when: You need a clear recommendation, memo, update, or executive summary.
Avoid when: The task is exploratory and the conclusion is not ready yet.

Method definition:
Start with the answer, then organize supporting points so each lower layer explains the one above it.
 
When to use:
You need a clear recommendation, memo, update, or executive summary.
 
Core principles:
- Lead with the conclusion
- Group supporting points by one logic
- Keep each group mutually distinct
- Order points by importance, time, or structure
 
Execution steps:
1. Write the one-sentence answer first
2. List three to five supporting arguments
3. Check whether each argument directly supports the answer
4. Remove overlaps and reorder the arguments
5. Write the final response with the conclusion at the top
 
Required output format:
A concise internal memo with a conclusion, supporting points, and a quality checklist.
 
Validation:
The output starts with a clear conclusion, gives three non-overlapping reasons, names the checker, and includes a stop condition.
 
Quality check before final answer:
- Is the first sentence a real conclusion?
- Do all arguments support that conclusion?
- Are the groups non-overlapping?
- Can a busy reader understand the answer without reading the whole note?
 
Human review:
Required before publishing, sending, merging, deploying, or using this output for a high-stakes decision.
